Well, after having an awesome Patriotic room, the boys were getting a little tired of the same things on their walls because they kept pulling down all the decals, curtains and flag- literally all 3 were on the ground at the same point of time after being pulled down numerous times before and I decided it was time for a change.

Living Room Redo- Board and Batten DIY
So for my birthday this year I requested a little spruce up of the living room/kitchen where I spend most of my time and where there are some things we have been wanting to change and add since we have been living here. We did board and batten in the living room then decided to use the leftover pieces and get some more to do the bathrooms while we were at it. It made such a huge difference and after doing that I changed out a few accessories and felt like I had a whole new house! I also touched up the white paint in my whole house (baseboards, cabinets, dresser, etc) so that made a huge difference too. I was able to complete the whole house revamp for under $700- here is the breakdown:

Picture Collage
I finally got my shelves put up and my picture collage started. There is no longer a big ugly blank wall in my living room! I started with 2 pieces that I plan on keeping on the shelf then added other picture frames I have, but will probably be changing those out.
The first piece I had chosen for the collage is this adorable canvas print from RedEnvelope. If you haven't heard of them you should definitely check them out. They have amazing gifts for many occasions including a wedding gifts line that is really something special.

Christmas Denial
I am still in denial that Christmas is over. I am going to put away the tree downstairs and my little tree, but I am thinking my wreaths might stay a little longer...

Basement Preview
So, I am finally getting going on decorating the basement. So far I have just been planning what pictures I want to hang and where, so I still have quite a ways to go :) But, I thought I would share our TV room so far so you could have a little preview.

Master Bedroom
First of all I have to start by saying that this room is not done! There are so many things I still need to get or change about it, but since I don't see that happening in the near future, I thought I would share what we have so far...

My DIY Breakfast Nook
You may remember my post from a couple months ago about adorable breakfast nooks. I finally was able to finish my little version of a breakfast nook in our tiny dining space! I was using this image as my main inspiration:
I loved the bamboo chairs and the bench seat combo with the round table, especially since I already had a cute round table...

Master Bath Before and After
So, I have to say first of all that my bathroom is nothing special, but I did want to share the changes I made in every room of our new home, so I am sharing it anyway.
The main change we made was painting the vanity white. We also painted the walls the same tan as the master bedroom. Lastly, I added new hardware to the cabinet and also new towel and tp holders.

Polka-Dot Walls
So I am finally posting Allie's room, even though there are quite a few finishing touches that still need to be done...
I posted about the fabric choices here, and haven't made the pillows for the window seat/bed yet, but did finally do the curtains. I got the fabric at fabric.com and it ended up being $35 for 6 yards.
The polka-dot walls were done in about an hour and were so easy! The polka dots are from Urban Walls and I love them! Here is the product page.
The chandelier is from Ikea (already in the house) The white down comforter is also from Ikea (gift)

Windowless Laundry Room
So we are so close to finishing our basement and one of the things I am looking forward to the most is having a couch down there right across from my laundry room that I can fold clothes on. Our laundry room is a pretty good size, but for me to fold laundry I really like to have something to watch on T.V. Folding laundry is SO boring!
So, my dilemma here is what to do with my laundry room that is clearly going to mostly be wasted space. I would probably love a bigger laundry room if there was a sink, window, the whole shebang, but since it is just a washer and dryer has no windows, I don't really want to spend a lot of time in there.
Here are my ideas so far:
A laundry/cleaning room with an area for wrapping stuff and maybe sewing and craft supplies?

Basement Paint Color
Today I am trying to decide what color we should paint our basement. It is pretty light, but just as light as a basement can get, so I want to keep it a really light color. It also has to go well with our green-gray couch and brown carpet. Here are the top 4:

Remodeling Your Kitchen on a Budget
Well, we are hopefully closing on our house this week- yipee! So, I thought I would share my plans for the kitchen, because, let's face it- that IS the most important part of a house, right?
You can see what the kitchen looks like currently here. It is definitely liveable, but I thought, why not make it the kitchen of my dreams with a remodeling budget of $2500?
Here is how we are going to do that...
Cabinets will be painted white (Behr - Polar Bear is the plan) and antique brass hardware will be added. I bought the hardware for a greatly discounted price on Restoration Hardware, but you can look online and in stores for less expensive options.
Paint, Paint tools, & Hardware: $170 total.
Counter tops will be changed out to a durable and beautiful granite. We are having them done by Granite Guyz in Orem, UT. So far we like them a lot (mostly because of price)- I will let you know when we have a finished product if I still do :)
The granite is called Angelus- these are examples, but not the exact slab we are using:
Just a tip for if you buy granite counters- when you are at the granite yards, ask the owners if they have any left over pieces they are trying to get rid of. (This will only work if your counter tops are around 55sq. ft. or less) We are getting this granite at a fraction of the cost because it was the last slab left of this particular kind.
Granite Counters (45 sq ft) AND under-mount sink included: $1700 total.
I am planning on buying this facet from Home Depot- it had great reviews and I have a friend that loves hers too.
Facet and Dispenser: $130 plus tax
Floors will be this "Vineyard Cherry" laminate we bought from Costco. We got it on sale and saved even more- thanks Melinda for telling us it was on sale! :) It comes with the pad attached to save money and time too- important since we will be installing it ourselves. Plus, since you always have to buy a lot extra, we will be able to return the extra with Costco's awesome return policy. That will probably save us around $50-$100.
Floors: $700 for the kitchen AND living room, so $400 for just the kitchen.
So far we are looking at $2400 so that leaves $100 for a backsplash and any other expenses if we stay in the $2500 budget.
Another way we are saving on the kitchen remodel is keeping the white appliances- which I like more than stainless steel anyways, because I am obsessed with white and they are easier to keep clean- win win!
I can't wait to share the finished product- hopefully coming mid November!

Allie's Girly Room- Fabric
One of the exciting things about getting a little house for our family is that Allie gets to have a girly room (instead of sharing with Macsen.) While it was fun to have a challenge to decorate a gender neutral room, I am excited to include Allie in the process of designing her very own big-girl room.
Although, while I have been asking Allie for her opinion on all of the decisions, I just haven't been getting the answers I particularly want. For example, the only color she wants is PURPLE. Not my favorite color, but that isn't the problem. The problem is that there are like 5 patterns of fabric with purple in them in the ENTIRE world (a.k.a. on the internet) that I can tolerate and that Allie actually likes. Didn't realize that girl has such an opinion; she is definitely her father's daughter.
Anyways, after spending literally HOURS and HOURS looking for purple fabric online, at Home Goods, JoAnne's, and Ross Allie and I finally decided on 2 that we will be using:
Curtains to the ceiling and pillows for bed:
Pillow for bed and window seat:
And I now adore Fabric.com!!!
Seriously, learn from my mistake and if there is something particular you want in a fabric don't waste your time- just buy it from Fabric.com.
This isn't a sponsored post, but when I bought my fabric I used a coupon code and saved myself like $15...It's 20% off and free shipping with "sewsorry"
I can't wait to go pick out a pretty grey paint for the walls in her room now! And, Jamie, plan on painting something really cute for her room during Christmas break, k? :)

Big Plans from a Little Piece
I am so excited about these drawer pulls I just bought this week at Restoration Hardware.
I have literally lost sleep over them- that is how excited they make me! :)
The reason, is because I never thought I would be able to afford big, heavy, nice hardware for my kitchen cabinets. Did I mention they are 8 INCHES wide?!! :)
The other reason is because this brass color is harder to find than the silver tones and I have been hoping I could have brass accents in my house but didn't think it was within my reach.
My dreams are coming true for my dream kitchen on a super strict budget!
Can't wait to share more with you on how I am going to transform this kitchen:

Big Boy's Room
I have been thinking about how to do Macsen's room once it is just a boys room (not sharing with Allie) and I am really leaning toward something very masculine and grown-up. Here are some rooms that I am using for my inspiration:
I love the idea of one dark blue wall...I like this color blue a lot:

Dream Kitchen
Lately I have been daydreaming of the perfect kitchen...
Granite counter-tops with white or cream cabinets...
A pretty, rustic table with pretty chairs and a pretty chandelier...
Copper or bronze hardware, toe kick, and outlet covers...
And another pretty chandelier over a kitchen island...
Anyone have any experience with copper sinks?
