The Bathroom: Finished and Ready for Redecorating

I am bored of my bathroom.  Here I am just now finally posting pictures of it for the first time (after "decorating") and I am already bored of it.

BEFORE PICTURE HERE

I don't mind the silver tray my makeup sits on.

I like this towel hanger and the artwork we inherited from Trey's grandparents.

I like the wicker baskets, but I don't really like the toile soap dispenser...that was supposed to be incorporated better into the bathroom but that never happened.

I don't like the mirrors in the bathroom but we are renting so there isn't much I can do about that.

I like this little box me and my mom found at the thrift store.

I also really love this mirror I bought a while ago, but I need to do something different with this shelf I think.

Suggestions...please?

Posting this HERE

  1. Are you allowed to paint your rental? Maybe some color would make the space more homey. Additionally, have you looked into decals for the mirror that would liven it up but could be easily removed?

  2. Well I love that toile soap dispenser .... so you could mail it to me and buy another (cream colored with silver pump). And perhaps adding a little silver paint to the shelf and distressing it a little might make it fit in more with your silver accessories. I like your bathroom.

Oh and a word of caution. The bathroom may be too moist and humid an environment for any art work that is of great value to you such as the inherited prints.

    Good luck.

  3. Well, I just happen to LOVE that soap dispenser! Everything else is really cute, too--very elegant. The artwork is gorgeous.

We're renting too and it makes it SO hard to decorate the way I want to. Oh well, I'm sure I'll survive until we purchase our own house someday. I'm just thankful to have a place to live, seriously!

Have a great week, sweet Jessica : )

  4. Are you allowed to paint? You should paint it like a dusty blue/gray. I like all your decor but you need a little pop of color. Good luck! can't wait to see what u decide.

  5. Is it OK to admit that your bathroom is light years better than mine will ever be? I seriously ooh'ed and ahh'ed over your photos. When it comes to design, you have a real eye!

I'd love for you to redo my house. :)

  7. Take my suggestions with a grain of salt! I think you have several different looks going on here--the shelf is shabby chic, soap dispenser and photos are french design-ish, mirror is elegant and orchids are asian-ish. Not necessarily a problem, but if it was me here is what I would do: I would go with the shabby chic look. I love it and it seems like you do too from what I have seen on your blog. I would spray paint the mirror and pic frames an antique white (I use Krylon heirloom white) and distress them. The baskets, makeup tray and hook go with this look. If you hate the soap dispenser, I would invest in a new one, maybe a clear acrylic one. Maybe make a cute shower curtain like this one but in white or your accent color: http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2010/05/decorate-my-home-part-17-ruffled-shower.html

So basically the cost would be for a new soap dispenser, a little spray paint and some cheap fabric for a curtain. Maybe $15?

Like I said, a grain of salt :)

  8. I love the changes!!! I'm currently living in a house with a bathroom that has a shell cut out in my sink, and a forest "wall papered" mural up on the wall behind the toilet so anything that's not mine I LOVE, but I've seen some of your other things and I love you're taste. I think you did a great job!!!

  9. bummer on the no-painting. Well what if you painted everything else? Haha. I like "the Harkers" idea of painting the shelf and going with "shabby chic". But I don't think you should paint anything a "neutral" color. You need some Pop since the walls are white. A shower curtain is a great idea. Try spray painting the shelf, soap dispenser and the frames a color you like. You can also add fabric liners in a cute pattern to the baskets you have. You mentioned you hated the mirror. I saw on a "rental makeover" tv show the idea of hanging a big frame over the mirror to give the illusion that the mirror is framed out. You could even make one with molding. Good luck!

(I'm an interior design major so all this runs through my head regardless if anyone wants my opinion :P)

  10. Ditto to several other comments.
I love the soap dispenser, but maybe you just need to move it to the kitchen?

I think mercury glass would look pretty in your bathroom.

I linked to the same party.
Stop by if you have time,
